The first Tuesday of each month post members meet at the VA Medical Center to visit hospitalized veterans and provide gifts that have been donated from the community. Other members volunteer at remote VA clinics assisting veterans.
The Post donates funds to the Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) to provide beverages for veterans medical treatments.
Post members assist people in the community. They help them perform errands and other helpful tasks that they wouldn’t normally able to accomplish without help.
Members have volunteered at Home Depot assisting youth with their projects sponsored by Home Depot.
The Post is actively preparing to adopt-a-unit which consists of adopting a military unit at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
The Post commemorates Loyalty Day on May 1st to encourage the proper display of the American Flag and ceremonies such as parades in suitable locations.
Every year comrades coordinate the placing of a miniature flag on each grave in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Some members also participate in the ceremony on Memorial Day (last Monday of May) as well as help retrieve and store these flags for future uses.
Flag day is June 14th and the post commemorates the day by assisting in the proper retirement of American Flags and at times have assisted in providing and replacing flags throughout Clark County.
There are also plans for a Recognition Program. Under this program the post are able to recognize Law Enforcement, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and Life Saving just to mention a few.
Comrades volunteer for the annual SportClips Hair Cuts “Help a Hero Scholarship” golf tournament to raise funds for veterans.
The Post is active in the annual VFW Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen and Teacher’s Award programs in our schools.
VFW Post 12119 commemorates Veterans Day on November 11th by assisting in providing meals to veterans. Our Post participates with VFW Post 10047 and DAV Sunrise Mountain #13 in the distribution of gift cards on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Volunteers distribute cards at designated locations. The current goal is to distribute 100 cards per holiday.
